Star Wars PagesTarkin was awarded the title of Grand Moff by Emperor Palpatine and assigned to command the first Death Star.
He signed an execution order for Princess Leia Organa and forced her to watch the destruction of the planet Alderaan, her home planet.
On Leia's rescue he took the risk of allowing the Millenium Falcon to escape with a homing beacon secured within that ship. This led him to discover the Rebel base on the fourth moon of the planet Yavin.
He arrogantly thought that the small thermal exaust port that posed a risk to his station was not cause for evacuation. This arrogance cost him his life when the Death Star exploded.
