The Landing Party's
Star Wars PagesAnakin Skywalker was born and raised on the planet Tatooine until the age of nine by his mother Shmi. He was then placed in the care of Jedi Master Qui Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi Wan Kenobi.
Qui Gon Jinn was surprised about how strongly the Force was with Annakin which helped him enhance his natural abilities as a pilot.
He was to eventually marry Queen Amidala of Naboo and he would father two children, the twins Luke and Leia. He would remain oblivious to this fact until shortly before his death.
He received Jedi training from Kenobi until he was turned to the Dark Side of the Force by Emperor Palpatine. Kenobi was later to tell his son Luke that Anakin was 'The best starpilot in the galaxy and a cunning warrior.' He adopted the name of Darth Vader after fighting with Kenobi and falling into a molten pit. He was seriously injured and for the rest of his life had to wear a special suit and breath screen in order to survive.
He accepted the title of Dark Lord of the Sith and aided his master, Emperor Palpatine to hunt down and destroy most of the Jedi Knights. He was a feared enforcer of the Emporers will.
He served breifly on the first Death Star as an aide to Grand Moff Tarkin in order to locate the stolen plans for the station. These plans had been transferred to a Rebel Blockade runner under the command of a Captain Antilles. This vessel also carried Princess Leia Organa who was the adopted daughter of Bail Organa of Alderaan and an Imperial Senator. She was a leader of the Rebel Alliance and unknown to both of them at the time, Anakin's daughter.
Kenobi and his son Luke, who had discovered the stolen Death Star plans, enlisted the help of the Corellian smuggler, Han Solo and his Wookie partner Chewbacca. They set out for Alderran only to discover that the planet had been destroyed and their vessel captured by the Death Star.
This led to the eventual death of Kenobi at Vader's hands and the escape of Luke, Leia, Solo and Chewbacca. The escape was engineered by Vader and Tarkin in order to locate the Rebel base at the fourth moon of the planet Yavin.
This in turn led to the battle that resulted in the loss of the Death Star at the hands of Luke. Vader's vessel was damaged but he escaped and became obsessed with locating his son.
Vader eventually enticed Luke to the Cloud city of Bespine where he would enter combat with his son eventually cutting off Luke's hand. He also revealed that he was Luke's father and tried to convince his son to join him and kill Palpatine to establish a new order. Luke refused his offer, prefering instead to attempt a suicide that was unsuccessfull.
Vader also helped during the construction of the second Death Star at the planet Endor. This is where he would meet his son in combat for the last time. This fight was instigated by the Emperor and saw Luke being cajoled into a furious and desperate attempt to kill his father. At the last minuite, however, Luke came to see through the Emperor's plan and he refused to kill his father. Emperor Palpatine then unleashed a Force lightning barrage at the young Jedi who then pleaded with his father for help. The shock of his son in pain touched Anakin who killed Palpatine and being fatally wounded in the process. He also renounced the Dark Side of the Force, telling his son that Luke had saved him and to also inform his daughter Leia, Luke's twin.
