Star Wars PagesYoda was a wise Jedi Master and a member of the Jedi council. He had trained Jedi Knights for 800 years by the time of his death. His pupils included Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker.
He went into hiding on a planet in the Dagobah system where he remained until his death at the age of 900.
A wise Jedi escaped the Jedi purge instigated by Emperor Palpatine and warned Luke Skywalker that he must face his father and not to underestimate the Emperor's powers.
He demonstrated his command of the Force by lifting Luke Skywalker's X-Wing fighter from one of Dagobah's lakes and depositing it on the shore amazing the young Jedi. Yoda was disappointed by Luke's failure in a test where Luke entered an area strong with the Dark Side of the Force.
Yoda tried to prevent Luke from leaving Dagabah to face Darth Vader at Bespine before the younger man was ready. He told Luke to mind what he had learned and that this knowledge would save him.
Upon Luke's return to Dagobah, Yoda had grown old and weak. He still tried to shield Luke about the truth of his father's fall, eventually admitting that Vader was Luke's father. He also told the young man about another Skywalker though not about the identity of that person. Upon his death he merged with the Force, disappearing as had his former pupil Obi Wan Kenobi.
